Foster Care

Some Kids in Foster Care Feel That They
Don't have a Prayer.... Let's Change That.

2010 National Foster Care Prayer Vigil
May 16-22, 2010

The National Foster Care Prayer Vigil is a nationwide event initiated by top Christian organizations like Family Life, Shaohannah’s Hope and Focus on the Family in order to gather Believers in churches and cities across the country to go before God on behalf of the more than 500,000 children in our nation’s Foster Care System, their families, case workers and the church as it responds to their needs.

The statistics are staggering.  127,000 children in the U.S are waiting to be adopted.  The average age of a waiting child is eight years old. Many are much older, in fact each year, 20% of children (26,517 in 2006) exit foster care at age 18 without a positive family support system in place. Of those who age out, 51% are unemployed, 25% have been homeless at some point, 30% receive public assistance, and many end up in prison.   For most, this cycle continues into the next generation.

Check back during that week for daily prayer points.
